Next up in my series of NFL Draft prospects is Javonte Williams, 1/2 of the two headed monster RB tandem from UNC alongside Michael Carter. Most fans might not be that familiar with him if you didn’t watch many UNC or ACC games in general, but as a Canes fan I got more than just an introduction from him lol:

Albeit in that clip there was some of the worst form tackling ever known to man, but Williams is a flat out stud. He has the great combination of being a physical RB while still being elusive. He can pass protect and catch balls out of the backfield which gives him the potential to be an every-down back in the NFL. In 2020, Javonte racked up 1,140 rushing yards for 19 TD’s on the ground and 305 receiving yards with 3 TD catches. And as a reminder this is while splitting touches with fellow NFL prospect Carter, who I’ll have a separate article for.

I’d say the biggest possible flag on Williams is if he benefited too much from UNC’s offensive scheme and how loaded the talent was, but these days in the modern NFL offensive coordinators are doing the same so he should fit right in depending on the team. Travis Etienne and Najee Harris are the clear cut top 2 RB draft prospects, but Javonte isn’t far behind and will be a great steal for someone in the second round. Imagine him in the 49ers offensive scheme with how Kyle Shanahan uses his backs? Oh boy. Other teams that could be good fits would be in Pittsburgh and Atlanta. The Steelers desperately need to upgrade their running game and you know Mike Tomlin would love a physical back like Javonte. Atlanta let go of Todd Gurley and despite the signing of Mike Davis, new coach Arthur Smith will want all of the possible weapons at his disposal and everyone knows that you need two backs these days. Stay tuned for more prospect profiles leading up to the draft!
