Rays 1st baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who made his Major League debut in 2019, was playing in the Dominican League during the offseason for more seasoning.
He has now returned back to the States. Lowe, who hasn’t gotten much playing time at the games highest level (219 ABs in two seasons), was reportedly worried about the rising COVID-19 cases. Lowe did not want to put himself at a higher risk to test positive and have to quarantine before his offseason workouts begin.
With Yandy Diaz and Ji-Man Choi at first base, as well as the arrival of Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, Lowe may have difficulty finding regular playing time. Lowe has been quality, posting a .770 OPS, a bit over league average, when playing. Lowe wants to be in the best shape possible heading into the season.
