The 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards are set to broadcast globally on Sunday, with the event airing at 7 p.m. EST in the U.S.

British girl group Little Mix is hosting the event for the first time and will perform their new single titled “Sweet Melody.”

Lady Gaga leads all artists with seven nominations, including Best Artist along with Best Video, Best Song and Best Collaboration for “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. Justin Bieber and BTS earned five nominations each.

MTV will additionally present the Generation Change Award to five activists who are fighting for social justice around the world.

Hungary will co-host the MTV European Music Awards for the first time, government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkirályi announced in a video from the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ). Szentkirályi said in her statement that the fact that “one of the largest and most followed award ceremonies of pop music” is being held in Budapest is “a huge opportunity for Hungary and for Budapest,” especially in terms of the city’s exposure to the global tourism market.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the event will be held virtually in the two cities on November 8th. Viewers can follow the awards ceremony, the MTV EMA 2020 Show, from four iconic venues in Hungary and London.

In its statement, MTÜ wrote that the Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation (MTSZA) submitted an application for the event in 2019, and the Government of Hungary provides support for the event through the Hungarian Tourism Agency. The head of the agency, Zoltán Guller said that the program, featuring “iconic Budapest sites,” will be available to nearly one billion people in 200 countries on television and via the internet. This is a great opportunity to “show that Budapest is the best destination in the region.”

The Holiday hitmakers are set to host the EMAs on November 8 with this year’s awards show taking place in several locations around Europe, including Hungary due to the coronavirus pandemic. Announcing the exciting news, Little Mix – consisting of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – said: ‘What an honour! To present the MTV EMA’s is a dream, it’s such a special event. ‘We’ve always loved watching the spectacular performances and seeing who everyone has voted to win. This year we’ll also be performing our new single Sweet Melody, our second EMA performance. The show will go on and we can’t wait.’ Bruce Gilmmer, president of music at ViacomCBA Media Networks added: ‘We’re thrilled to welcome Little Mix, who performed at our 2018 show in Bilbao, back to the EMA Stage. ‘Hosting and performing is no small feat, but there is no doubt this powerhouse group will crush it!’

The 29-year-old will not appear alongside her bandmates on tonight’s final of the talent search competition, as she is unwell. A rep for the band said: ‘Jesy is unwell and will not be appearing on tonight’s final of Little Mix The Search.’ Her illness means she will also not be presenting the EMAs with Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards on Sunday night, with the rep adding: ‘She will also not be hosting or performing at tomorrow’s MTV EMAs.’ Fans took to social media to express their disappointment at Jesy missing the two massive shows, but wished her a speedy recovery and sent messages of support.

We’re so sad Jesy won’t be able to join us tonight, but we have such an amazing show in store for you all x.’ Jesy had appeared on Friday night’s semi-final of the BBC One show, after it was pushed back from last Saturday due to Boris Johnson’s lockdown speech. The star had performed a mash-up of Little Mix’s hits with her bandmates to open up the show. However, concern was raised last night over a promotional video shared on social media in support of Little Mix’s new album Confetti, in which Jesy appeared to look ‘over it’.
