A huge NFC North matchup is slated for tonight as the Green Bay Packers host the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Although it won’t be the same without #12 under center, it should still make for another classic in the historic rivalry.
The Lions come in on a 3-game losing skid, losing their last game 20-15 against the Steelers. Stafford has been absolutely owned by Green Bay so far in his career, going 3-10 against them, and going into Lambeau won’t make it any easier for him. Last week, the Lions also struggled in the redzone, making five trips, coming up with only field goals to show for it. For the Lions to win this one, they will have to finish drives, and Stafford will need his receivers to step up and catch passes when crunch time comes. Even a Hundley-led Packers can beat the Lions if they continue to come up short in the redzone.
The Packers aren’t fairing much better after losing their last two, but coming in after a bye week should be helpful for quarterback Brett Hundley, who’s making his second start after Rodgers went down against Minnesota. The bye week should serve him well, and hopefully he’s taken advantage of an extra two weeks to work with the starters. The biggest key for the Packers tonight is going to be if Hundley will be unleashed, instead of controlled like his previous start. He didn’t throw any deep balls two weeks ago, and hardly seems to rollout to use his legs, which he was able to do fairly well when pressured out of the pocket. The only way the Packers can steal this one is for Hundley to just play, and hopefully Coach McCarthy will allow him to do so.
I have the Packers winning this in a shootout, 38-35, and as long as the Packers let Hundley go, he can do enough damage to a Lions defense that has given up just too many points lately. Let us know what you think of tonight’s game in the comments below!
