MLB Trade Rumors: Why the Yankees should make a deal for Cubs’ Willson Contreras

The fan base of the New York Yankees have wanted a new catcher to replace Gary Sanchez for quite some time.

One particular catcher may be available now in Willson Contreras, especially after the Chicago Cubs signed veteran Yan Gomes to a two-year deal on Tuesday.

Contreras message on Twitter makes it seem like he expects to be traded at some point. And that’s where thenYankees could swoop in and make a deal.

With Gomes there, the Y ankees wouldn’t be able to send Sanchez there like some thought they would try to send him to the Miami Marlins before they got Jacob Stallings.

But catching wise, Contreras is an improvement and upgrade over Sanchez, whose defense alone has hurt the Yankees. We’ve all seem the missed tag at home plate in the game vs the New York Mets.

It seems like this was the game where the Yankees fans had given up on Sanchez. And it’s hard to fault them.

The Yankees and Cubs have made recent deals; they made the Anthony Rizzo trade back in July with the Cubs starting to tear it down. A trade of Contreras for the Yankees would make sense, as he’s signed for the next two seasons and can be the guy while Austin Wells continues to develop in the minors.
