Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is out for the remainder of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
The tear is in the same knee that Trout underwent surgery to repair earlier this year. He underwent surgery to repair the initial torn meniscus in May.
The 32-year-old Trout hasn’t played since April 29th. He has 10 home runs, 14 RBI and a .220 batting average in 29 games this season.
Trout had just one plate appearance in a rehab start on July 23. He played two innings in center field before leaving the game discomfort in his left knee.
Trout had a great start to his career, which began in 2012. He won the AL Rookie of the Year award and went on to win three AL MVP awards (2014, ‘16 and ‘19).
During that span of his career, Trout was considered the top player in the sport and a sure Hall-of-Famer.
Trout turns 33 on Wednesday and has not played more than 119 games in a season since 2019. He played in 82 games last year and in 2021 played in just 36 games.
Trout has 378 career home runs and has a 12-year, $426.5 million contract that runs through 2030.
There is no denying Trout’s talent. He is still one of baseball’s most dangerous hitters when healthy, but his body just seems to be breaking down.
Hopefully, Trout gets healthy and can resume his great career. Major League Baseball fans do not want to be robbed of watching him play baseball for many more seasons.
