A bizarre accidental shooting incident took place in downstate Ionia County over the weekend as a man shot his own brother mistaking him for an injured deer.

According to the Ionia County’s Sheriff Office on Facebook, the 29-year-old shooter, David Fron, who’s from Saranac, told authorities that he saw the deer move and fired at it. But after firing his muzzle-loading rifle, he realized he shot his brother, 28-year-old, Marcus Fron.

The older brother, David, called 911 immediately for help and the two brothers walked out of the field in which they were hunting at where they were met by first responders.

Assisting the first responders at the scene were the Saranac Fire Department, LIFE EMS, and Aero Med of Grand Rapids.

Marcus Fron is listed in serious, but stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery.

All parties have been cooperating throughout the investigation and reports are currently being reviewed by the Ionia County Prosecutor’s Office.
