It is reported from a couple sources that Dr. Marc Mallory, husband of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, tried to get their family boat into a lake in Northern Michigan, as the governor told residents to not travel up to vacation areas during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Detroit News has reported that Tad Dowker, owner of NorthShore Dock LLC, posted on Facebook that he received a call from someone (perceived to the governors husband) asking if he can put his boat in the water a few days before the holiday.

After being told by the company’s staff that it was not going to happen due to starting up three weeks late, the caller said to them, “I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?” The post later said they were moved to the back of their waiting list.

Their post was taken down just shortly afterwards. But some people posted screenshots of the post from Dowker himself, such as the one below from Facebook user, KayLeigh Renee.

WLUC-TV6 on their post said Mallory was respectful to them and understood why the company could not get their into the water immediately.

For those who don’t remember back just over a week ago, Governor Whitmer said at the May 18 press conference, once the Upper Peninsula and the Northern Michigan regions can open up to 50% capacity, she urged some residents to ‘think long and hard’ on traveling up north.

“”If you don’t live in these regions … think long and hard before you take a trip into them,” Gov. Whitmer said via the Detroit News. “A small spike could put the hospital system in dire straits pretty quickly. That’s precisely why we’re asking everyone to continue doing their part. Don’t descend on Traverse City from all regions of the state.”

As much as I am trying to be neutral about this, but I think the governor has some explaining to do at her next press conference with the whole events that were going on from the prior weekend.

Some people are questioning politicians on handing this pandemic nowadays, and I don’t blame them. Hopefully Whitmer will try to explain herself on this.
