The officiating crew from last night’s girls basketball game between L’Anse and Wakefield-Marenisco High School made a kind gesture towards the families of the two fallen boys and to one girl is currently fighting for her life.
After refereeing the game that was full of emotion and tributes, MHSAA official team of Lou Ambuehl, Joseph Strong, and Shana Ruostala decided to give back, as told in a post by the L’Anse High School Athletics’s Facebook page that was titled: Character of an Official.
All three referees donated their game check over to families of the fallen Dylan Roberts and Christopher Turpeinen, and to Hunter Pelon. Pelon is currently battling for her life at a hospital in Green Bay.
The Athletics’ page also said that the students came together and wanted the girls’ game to be played and have the boys’ game be cancelled, so everyone can be together. They honored their request and a game was played, and the students orchestrated a tribute for the victims and their families.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for donations that go towards Pelon and her family. Everyone is encouraged to donate. If you’re local you can donate money into Pelons mothers account, Amber Pelon, at the Baraga County Federal Credit Union.
Our thoughts and prayers go out the families affected from the tragic accident and please keep spreading messages of hope for Pelon at this time.
