On Saturday, it was reported that the Mets GM search had reached a halt with Diamondbacks Assistant General Manager Jared Porter. On Sunday, they confirmed that he has signed a four-year deal at the helm in Queens.

Porter is considered by many in baseball to be overdue a role of this magnitude as he has over a decade experience as an executive. From 2004-2015, he worked in Boston, with his final role being Director of Scouting. He won three championships as a member of the Red Sox front office before moving onto Chicago as a special assistant to the GM, winning a championship in his first year with the club. Since 2017, he’s been the vice president of the Diamondbacks and an assistant to GM Mike Hazen.

Porter inherits an intriguing team. With an owner willing to now spend (as seen by the recent James McCann contract), as well as a core that consists of Brandon Nimmo, Jacob deGrom, Michael Conforto and Amed Rosario, there’s certainly a lot to like about the Mets, but the Mets are essentially average at their peak. With a middle-of-the-pack farmsystem, it’ll be fascinating to see how he transitions the club into a better future.
