The NBA offseason is officially here and teams have already made moves. The Clippers have found their new head coach in Ty Lue, per Woj of ESPN. Shortly after the news was broke, Shams confirmed Woj’s tweet and also added that Chauncey Billups will be his lead assistant

The headlines will be about Ty Lue, who coached LeBron & the Cleveland Cavaliers to an historic Finals win in 2016, but personally I think it’s awesome that Chauncey is finally back in the association. You knew that he would be back eventually, but wasn’t sure in what capacity as his name has floated around for front office hires. Such a brilliant basketball mind. Very well deserved for one of my favorite players ever and he’ll likely be a Head Coach somewhere within a few years, and maybe for the Clippers if Ty can’t get it done.

The Ty Lue hire isn’t that sexy, but he does have experience coaching a superstar laden team in a boom or bust situation. Clippers will be one of the favorites again to win next season, but I don’t see how things will be much different if they run it back with the same squad. Paul ‘Pandemic P’ George just isn’t a winner and they mortgaged their whole future to get him so they don’t have any assets to make any big moves to the roster. They don’t have a draft pick until 2022 and won’t have a 1st round pick until 2027. Also, Montrezl Harrell is a Free Agent and will likely want to get paid a fat contract elsewhere. It’s safe to say the window is closing on the this current era for the Clippers and the pressure to win next year will be enormous.
