Looks Like Marvin Jones Will Be Leaving Detroit This Offseason

Yikes, not the quote you want to hear from a wide receiver that’s about to hit free agency. Normally players talk about how much they would like to stay in the city they play for, even if they are just lying and saying it for the media.

Marvin Jones has been with the Lions since 2016 and has been consistent every year. The lowest amount of yards he caught for in a season with the Lions was 508 in 2018, where he missed six games. Jones reached 1,000 yards in a season once in Detroit, in 2017, catching for 1,101 yards with nine touchdowns. This season, Jones has caught for 798 yards for seven touchdowns. He has been one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL since arriving in Detroit.

At the age of 30, Jones wants to be part of a real contender. Hate to break it to Lions fans, but the Lions are far far away from contending. This team more than likely will go into full rebuild mode this offseason, and you can’t blame Jones for not wanting to be part of a rebuild at this stage of his career.

This now causes a big problem for the Lions if Jones does leave. The Lions have almost no wide receivers under contract for next season. Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, Danny Amendola, and Mohamed Sanu are all going to be free agents this offseason. The only receivers who aren’t scheduled to be free agents this offseason are Geronimo Allison and the rookie Quintez Cephus. The Lions obviously need to go after wide receivers this offseason. Expect the new regime to be targeting a lot of receivers in draft/free agency.
