The journey for recently hired Washington Redskins coach hasn’t been an easy one. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan your shot of making it to the big league is unheard of, it doesn’t happen.. The odds are against you.
Storm was a standout High School football player at Calumet High School. Storm worked his way to an opportunity to play college football at Michigan Tech which is next door to his hometown, a DII school.
While Storm played at Tech he was named GLIAC Defensive Lineman of the Year for the two years in a row after finishing second in the league with 7.5 sacks. Storm was third in the GLIAC in tackles for loss (14.5), and posted 68 tackles on the season – fourth most on the team.
He was invited to the 2012 Detroit Lions Rookie Mini Camp, where his quote “Really, I’ll do absolutely anything they want me to, to make the team” was talked about on ESPN UP, MLive and other Detroit Lions media outlets. Although his strong mini camp he didn’t end up making the roster.
He ended up signing a pro contract with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. He played one season for the Gladiators, accumulating 21 tackles, 3.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in nine games.
After the season Storm decided to become a graduate assistant coach at Michigan Tech then he moved to become the defensive graduate assistant at Central Michigan University.
After spending 2014-2017 at CMU he became the offensive Intern for the University of Michigan where he spent one season.
After that season with Michigan he was opened up to an opportunity in the NFL. He became an offensive intern for the Carolina Panthers.
Today it was announced that the man himself… all the way from the U.P.. DA 906…. was hired by the Washington Redskins as one of two offensive quality control coaches:
Congrats Todd! From one Yooper to another, GO GETTEM! I can’t wait to see what he brings to Washington and how much he can grow there. He could move up the coaching rankings fast, especially seeing NFL Franchises are in love with the younger coaches now.
Hopefully in the future it’ll be HEAD COACH, Todd Storm.
