Lions to Release Linebacker Christian Jones

Leading towards an expected rebuild, the Detroit Lions continue their offseason moves as they plan to release linebacker Christian Jones.

Via NFL Network’s Tom Pelliserro and the Pride of Detroit, the move frees up $2.5 million towards the team’s salary cap. This even comes after he signed a two-year extension during the 2019 season.

Despite recording 109 tackles through 42 starts in Detroit, this move is happening as the Lions start to rebuild a defense that was ranked the bottom of the league overall the past two seasons.

They will need some help in free agency/draft to patch up the linebacker corps and the rest of the defense, even though middle linebacker James Collins agreed to restructure his contract to stay in Detroit.
