The Las Vegas golden nights traded away goaltender Marc Andre Fleury this morning to the Chicago Blackhawks. As a Las Vegas Golden Knights fan and someone who has lived in Vegas their entire life, this is upsetting. I can remember when the team got Marc in the expansion draft, I was there with a group of friends and hearing that this Stanley Cup champion, and an amazing person was coming to play for our first professional sports team was truly amazing. I understand the move from the Knights perspective, between him and Lenier there is too much money tied up in the goaltender position. Flurry is a little older and just happens to be the odd man out. The nights are getting practically nothing in return, a minor league player, however they are cleared of his contract and that’s the big thing in this situation.

Since the Knights became a team they have reached the Stanley Cup once as well as the Western Conference finals two other times. And a large part of this success has to be credited to Fleury. The way the nights have been able to turn Vegas into a hockey town has been crazy. Everywhere I go I see Knights paraphernalia. On bumper stickers, in store windows, on street corners, people wearing hats, people wearing T-shirts, people wearing jerseys. Down near T-Mobile arena where the Knights play has become one of the more electric atmospheres in hockey.

This is a tough pill to swallow. But that’s sports. I believe I speak for all of Vegas when I say, thank you Flower.
