Justin Verlander will be shut down to heal a mild lat strain that he suffered in yesterday’s spring training game.

While the injury isn’t thought to be too serious, Verlander’s status for the beginning of the regular season is in doubt.

Verlander said in an interview that “it would probably take a miracle to be back before opening day. But I don’t want to take miracles off the table.”

Verlander won the American League Cy Young award for the Houston Astros last year in his age 36 season with 2.58 ERA and a career best 300 strikeouts.

We will keep an eye on the situation and update as it develops.
