Patriots fans are well aware by now that the explosive Tom Brady lead offense’s of yesteryear are gone (for now). We’re not going to see Tom throw for 500 yards and 4 TD’s like he did in Super Bowl 52. Sony Michel isn’t going to lead the playoffs in rushing like he did last year. Mohamed Sanu isn’t going to….well….idk do much of anything.

So God damnit Julien Edelman better be returning punts this postseason. He’s the best punt returner in the game. Almost 2,000 career punt return yards and 3 TD’s in 177 attempts with a long of 94 yards. I can understand why he hasn’t had that duty the past few years. He’s been the cog that makes the engine run in this offense for a long time.

But here’s the thing, this offense kinda stinks. They don’t generate huge plays, they don’t move the sticks consistently, they really struggle when they have to put together a 65+ yard drive for touchdowns.

So, what better way to get some much needed quick strike scores than a Julien Edelman punt return for a TD. The Gunner Olszewski experiment was cute until he went on IR. The Sanu experiment has been just plain bad. And who could forget the “fuck it, throw all 11 guys on the line” play we ran for a while there?

If he gets hurt returning points, then so be it. This team is going to win on defense and special teams as they have all year, so let’s put our best guys out there.
