Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley delivered standout performances in the Philadelphia Eagles 28-23 victory over the Jaguars in Week 9.
Hurts completed 18 of his 24 passes for 230 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 67 yards and a score on the ground.
Barkley rushed for 159 yards on 27 carries and caught 3 passes for 40 yards with two total touchdowns (1 rushing and 1 receiving).
The Eagles should have won this game convincingly, if not for Head Coach Nick Sirianni questionable decisions and horrible call by the referees on a Saquon Barkley fumble.
Sirianni opting to go two twice and failed both times, the ridiculous failed 4th-and-inches near the end of the third quarter, refusing to kick two field goals and going for it on fourth down and failing, and then having Jake Elliot attempt a 57 yard field goal.
All of those Eagles questionable coaching decisions gave an overmatched Jaguars team life. Nakobe Dean’s interception in the end zone sealed a close Eagles victory.
The Eagles talent was on display all day, despite bad coaching decisions and a horrible game altering call by the referees.
Barkley is an incredible talent. He continues to be the top dog on a very talented Eagles offense. Barkley’s incredible catch in the flat, where he forced two missed tackles and jumped over a Jaguars defender backwards.
Hurts had another exceptional game. He became the first Eagles QB to have four straight games with a passer rating of 119 or higher. It was his fifth straight game with no interceptions and fourth game with no turnovers.
Eagles WR DeVonta Smith had 4 catches for 87 yards, which included an unreal one-handed, toe-dragging touchdown catch that extended the Eagles lead to 28-16.
The Eagles more than doubled the Jaguars total in total yards, outgaining them 447-211. Yet if not for Barkley’s spread-eagle reverse hurdle, his 20-yard over the shoulder TD catch, Smith’s catch, Dean’s interception and incredible play from Hurts to secure what should have been a blowout win over the 2-6 Jaguars.
Sirianni cannot continue to make these bonehead coaching decisions. The Eagles face the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday at 4:25 pm.
