It is contract season in the wacky world of professional wrestling. Lots of names have their deals coming up at the end of the year (2020), so January should create tons of headlines. For today, we have one interesting news bite to share.
Congrats to Brian Myers.
The most professional wrestler has signed a new contract with IMPACT Wrestling. The former “Curt Hawkins” was released from WWE back in April of 2020 and showed up in Impact a little after is 90 day non-compete clause ended. While not entirely surprising, he is good friends with Tommy Dreamer, who works behind the scenes, and has always been a sought after talent throughout his career.
While I will never claim to be his biggest fan, he certainly has a following and is always a solid wrestler to have on the roster. Whether in a tag team, solo, heel, face, comedy, serious, hardcore, techincal – the guy brings it. I know a lot of fans love his partnership with Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder); I am actually more than ready to move on. Let these guys do their own thing. The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast will still be there for those two. Same with any training or autograph sessions.
On screen though, the Most Professional Wrestling is primed to have a big 2021. As I wrote about last week, Sami Callihan has already decided to stay with Impact and sign a brand new deal. Now Myers can be added to that list. I like it. Good for him. On the flip side, Ethan Page and Taya are still RUMORED to be on expiring contracts with Impact and have received interest from WWE. Will they stay or go? We’ll see…
