In the lasted of many moves that Troy Weaver has made this week as the new Pistons GM, the Pistons have traded Tony Bradley to the Sixers for Zhaire Smith, as reported by Woj. This is a great move for Detroit, who traded for Bradley on draft day (as well as the 38th overall pick who they used on Sadiiq Bey) and immediately flipped him. Everyone was questioning why we acquired so many big men, but it was obvious to me that Troy Weaver wasn’t done and was going to use some of them in later moves. Zhaire Smith is talented and has a lot of untapped potential, which will be a great project for Dwane Casey who’s known for his development with young players.

Zhaire might not have had the breakout season yet since being drafted in 2018, but it’s clear the skill is there and he was always known that he was raw and far from being a fnished project. He has freakish athleticism which shows on his dunks, he can shoot, and he’s also has shown flashes on defense.

As a Pistons fan, I’m very happy with the first big week of Troy Weaver, and there’s probably at least another move or two to come. It’s clear what the strategy is right now: develop young players and prep for the future. It’ll be fun to see what Dwane Casey does with Zhaire, Josh Jackson, and the 2020 draft picks.
