Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and insider Adam Caplin, Detroit Lions have landed their new offensive tackle as they signed former Super Bowl champion Halapoulivaati ‘Big V’ Vaitai.
Vaitai’s contract is up for 5 years, $50 million.
The Pro Football Focus has Vaitai listed as 22nd overall offensive tackle. He finished the 2019 season graded 11th as a run blocker, but was 77th in the pass. Those numbers can be improved.
Vaitai was listed as a backup behind tackles Jason Peters and Lane Johnson and did well stepping in when needed. He also started in for Peters during Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win.
Here are some highlights from their SB win on the new Lions tackle (#72).
