Thanks for joining me. There’s so much more wrestling to watch than a few years ago, and I can’t possibly write about and scrutinise it all!

So, let’s be smarter with our time.

I am a huge proponent of balance. It’s all too easy to let the online world remove the grey areas and middle-grounds that offer us perspectives other than the two extremes. I wouldn’t want the internet to become a platform for me to purely rant or rave about something I loved or hated respectively. So here I am, mixing it up by appraising something I enjoyed and something I didn’t care much for this week in the wrestling world.

#GWvsBW – Good Wrestling vs Bad Wrestling.

I’m going to bend the format slightly this week. Instead of discussing two separate topics, one which I enjoyed, and one that I disliked, I shall weigh up the good and bad points of the same matter.

Good Wrestling – Stating the obvious

You’ve made a shit-load of money, immediately, and for your pocket. Well done, WWE.

You’ve temporarily brought some wrestling tourists back for Wrestlemania season, but I shan’t be cracking open the bubbly any time soon.

Yes, both of these are obviously and instantly beneficial, I understand that. But this will cause a large portion of wrestling “fans” to only pay attention during Wrestlemania season. They will see it as the time that the “proper” stars appear and believe the rest of the year isn’t as important. Seems we’ve got that “off-season” people often whispered about, such a shame it’s about nine months long and it’s at the expense of a lot of people’s hard work.

Times like these offer the OPPORTUNITY for veterans and Hall of Famers to do the right thing and give the rub to younger, less exposed, and/or full-time talent.

That’s all I’ve got for good wrestling.

Bad Wrestling – Greedy Nostalgia Whores

C’mon on now, WWE. I was praising you and Big Bill a couple of weeks ago. Why have you gone and done this?

That question was obviously rhetorical. I know that they’ve done it for that short-sighted dollar and shock-factor.

Didn’t you learn from the mess made when Goldberg obliterated the Chris Jericho vs Kevin Owens Wrestlemania title match plans the other year?

That was also rhetorical. As I’d written about a while ago, Vince McMahon doesn’t learn from his mistakes. Jericho got shat on, he left, drew a lot of attention to something anti-WWE, he was their inaugural champion, and he hasn’t looked back. He’s also gone on record to state how the decision to meddle in Jericho and Owen’s payoff match heavily influenced his move to pastures new.

Don’t you see that smashing stars currently being built is shortsighted and a slap in the face to any involved or that happen to support you and, you know…YOUR FUCKING PRODUCT!?!

Again, no answer is required. Vince and co. are content on letting us bang our heads against this wall forever, as long as some coin is raining in from somewhere.

Thanks to his corporate dominance, Vince has a tendency to push projects that give him wowsers in his trousers; this often makes WWE appear more like the World Bodybuilding Federation. I feel like we’re doomed and we have been for years, but surely this can’t go on forever!

Putting it bluntly

Goldberg has about five moves and can only cut the one promo.

The Undertaker takes twenty-bastard-minutes to get to the ring and groan THE SAME PROMO.

Brock Lesnar (despite being an actual beast) just shows up to do the same shit, every match while SOMEONE ELSE says the exact same shit upon each visit. Don’t get me wrong, Paul Heyman is a fantastic talker. He’s just been selling the exact same thing for a while now.

I am essentially a fan of all three of these guys, I at least have been at some point in my life. I don’t want to be a stick in the mud, but I refuse to keep silent with my constructive criticism. Especially when the sole purpose is to avoid upsetting some old guys while mentioning their age or just how far over the hill they are.

Oldberg beat The Fiend in a matter of minutes with half a Jackhammer, Grandadtaker one-shotted AJ Styles with a sloppy chokeslam, and Bored Lesnar toyed with Ricochet for five minutes before pinning him.

These results shouldn’t be anywhere close to being accurate in 2020. After a couple more winters have passed and these older chaps are keeping a chair warm in The Legend’s House, where will the aforementioned younger three be? Still trying to get people to take them seriously, that’s where! And for what? A cheap pop today at the cost of hooking a long-term fan tomorrow. That’s what you get for willingly drowning yourself in nostalgia and clinging onto the past…

Delusional, greedy bastards and bad wrestling!
