With the Giants in playoff contention, if they make it they will be without the shark, as Jeff Samardzija, who was in the final year of his five year/$90M contract.
As a Giant, he went 33-45 with a 4.24 ERA, but 2020 was a disastrous year for the former Cubs All-Star. He posted a 9.72 ERA in only 16 1/3rd inning, with shoulder injuries.
The DFA comes with them having to leave him off of a potential postseason roster, thus placing him on unconditional release waivers despite his run with the team coming to an end. Samardzija says he plans to play in 2021.
