Former Notre Dame All-American tight end Tony Hunter passed away at the age of 64. He played for the Fighting Irish from 1979-82.
Hunter caught 120 passes for 1,897 yards and five touchdowns while adding 120 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries during his four-year career. He was named a Newspaper Enterprise Association first-team All-American as a senior in 1982.
Hunter was the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played two years with the Bills, before playing two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
Hunter had 134 receptions for 1501 yards with 9 touchdowns during his four year NFL career. He suffered a career-ending knee injury in 1986.
Hunter graduated from Moeller High School in 1979. He was a member of their Athletic Hall of Fame.
