Five star center Vernon Carey has announced his commitment to play college basketball at Duke next season. Carey is listed by many as the number two overall recruit in the class, only behind fellow center James Wiseman. Standing at 6’10 and weighing at 275 pounds, Carey will be a huge low-post threat but his mid-range to perimeter game is not to be slept on. Equipped with impeccable timing and a generous wingspan, Carey will undoubtedly make an impact on the defensive side of the floor as well.
This commitment is a huge win for Duke, as Carey selected the Blue Devils over other NCAA perennial contenders Michigan State University and the University of North Carolina. Carey’s commitment also makes it seven straight years that Duke has been able to lure one of the top-three high school prospects in the country, which by far is the longest streak in the country. Look for Carey to make an immediate impact next season on the hardwood at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
