Hopefully after my last Euro blog you all started watching. This tournament has been nothing short of amazing, but sadly it comes to a close in just under a week. With 3 matches left, here’s what to look for.
Semifinal match one will be a battle of European heavy weights, Spain and Italy. This would be like Kentucky playing Duke in a final 4 game. Both teams have had recent success, Italy winning the World Cup in 2006, and Spain doing so in 2010. Spain has also won 2 of the last 3 Euro tournaments. It’s a bit of a clash in styles, as Spain likes to play fast, while Italy is known for that defensive possession play that sucks the life out of you. Italy is +120, and I like them here. I see them winning this 2-0 or 2-1. I would say look to the over 2 goals but it’s -145, so not much value there.
Wednesday will give us our 2nd semifinal game between England and Denmark. For England, who like to be considered a power house, this is hopefully the end of a drought. England has not won a major competition since the 1960s. The skill is there with what their players bring to the table, and the fans like to think that’s It’s Coming Home. Denmark on the other hand has been the Cinderella story. Losing their best player in the first game due to heart issues, and dropping their first 2 matches, it did not look good. But since then, Denmark has grabbed the hearts of fans and continues to be easy to root for. Denmark has not won a major tournament since 1992. I like doing a parlay on this game. England is -165, and the Over of 2 is -135. Putting the 2 together gives you a little less than 2/1 odds. So that would be my play.
Enjoy the games, they both should be great, and set us up for a great ending.
