The Manning name in the NFL is prestigious. It all started with Archie Manning and his long term tenure with the New Orleans Saints. Then his son Peyton, who was one of the greatest to ever play the game for both the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Then, you have Eli Manning of the New York Giants who from a skill standpoint may not have been as talented as his brother Peyton, but was equally successful in winning two Super Bowls.
However, that does not change the fact that Eli Manning has a dark side.
In 2010, Eli Manning was reportedly part of a scheme to sell used New York Giants equipment as “game worn” to sports memorabilia collectors even though the items at hand were never actually used in game. Manning allegedly tried to cheat these memorabilia collectors to earn a quick profit. Manning went as far as sending an email to equipment manager Joe Skiba asking for “2 helmets that can pass as game used.”
Manning’s attorney stated the following at the time:
Manning ended up setting the eventually ended up settling the cases brought against him out of court. It seems fairly obvious that he intended to cheat these collectors. Was he not making enough money as it is? Shame on Eli. Cheating out your fans is not a good look.
