The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New Orleans Saints 15-12 on the road yesterday to improve to 2-1 on the season.
It was a huge win against a red hot Saints team. The Eagles defense was amazing. On offense the Eagles got outstanding performances from Saquon Barkley and Dallas Goedert.
Eagles star DT Jalen Carter was a game wrecker yesterday as he lead the way for the defense. Jordan Davis, Zack Baun, Reed Blankenship and Nakobe Dean were all exceptional on the defensive side of the ball.
With 55 seconds remaining, Eagles defensive ends Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat forced Saints QB Derek Carr to throw across the middle of the field where he was picked off by Blankenship.
Offensively, RB Saquon Barkley led the way with 147 yards rushing on 17 carries and 2 touchdowns. His 65-yard go-ahead touchdown run early in the fourth quarter gave the Eagles a 7-3 lead.
Barkley scored his second touchdown with 1:01 left to play and his two-point conversion put the Eagles up 15-12.
Tight End Dallas Goedert had a career-high 10 catches, for 170 yards. His 43-yard catch set up Barkley’s game winning touchdown.
Goedert’s big day was much needed with A.J. Brown missing his second straight game and DeVonta Smith getting injured in the third quarter with a concussion.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had a up and down game. His two turnovers in the first half really to put the team in a bind. The interception in the end zone cannot happen.
Hurts made many big throws in the second half. He showed poise and accuracy over the final two quarters.
For the game, Hurts completed 29 of 38 passes for 311 yards with an interception. He also carried the ball 8 times for 25 yards.
The Eagles lost star WR DeVonta Smith with a helmet-to-helmet hit. He walked off under his own power and was later evaluated for a concussion. A flag should have been issued on this dirty hit.
Left tackle Lane Johnson left the game and was being evaluated for a concussion and WR Britain Covey left with a shoulder injury.
The Eagles face off against the Buccaneers in Tampa on Sunday, September 29 at 1 PM.
