The new AP Polls just came out, and it’s the first time since 1961 that Duke, UNC, and Kentucky are unranked. Gonzaga is still atop the poll, with Baylor and Villanova behind them.

Kentucky is in shambles. Losing by the biggest margin under Calipari at home, in a 20 point loss to Alabama last week. Then the Wildcats lost to Auburn on Saturday and now stand at 4-8. Kentucky’s tournament chances are slipping away. Now on a two-game losing streak, the chances are only getting slimmer.

UNC is coming off a loss to Florida State last weekend. UNC is now 8-5, 4-4 in ACC competition. According to Joe Lunardi, UNC is slated as the last four in to make the tournament. UNC would have missed the NCAA tournament last year, and could very well miss it this season. UNC hasn’t missed the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons since 2002-2003. The two years before Roy Williams arrived at UNC.

Duke is unranked for the first time since 2016. Duke is 5-3 on the season, 3-1 in conference play. Duke is coming off a loss last week to number 16 Virginia Tech. Duke is one of the last four byes to get into the tournament, but to me right now Duke isn’t a tournament team. Duke has one bad loss, getting dominated by a unranked Michigan State at home. The other losses are to ranked teams, Virginia Tech and Illinois. The problem with Duke is they have no impressive wins. The best win is either against Wake Forest at home or on the road against Notre Dame. Not impressive wins. When Duke does play good teams, they get dominated for at least half the game. Duke has an opportunity to make some statements in the next two weeks, with games against Clemson and Louisville.

You know it’s a weird season when all three of these teams suck. If Kansas stunk, I would be worried the world is ending because this never is the case. Gonzaga looks like the best team by far as of now, and these teams look like NIT teams.
