There’s a lot of bashing and laughing going on from fans outside of Chicago after the Bears traded up and chose North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the 2017 NFL Draft.
But one of the notable players that the team passed over was current Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who took to Twitter and said the Bears ‘never once’ contacted in anything regarding drafting him at No. 2 overall.
This came in response after analyst Doug Gottlieb boasted on Twitter that the Bears talked over and evaluated with all quarterbacks then. And they included Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes II.
Let’s say Watson is right, and Gottlieb is again in the wrong on this one.
And we will also say that the rest was history as Trubisky was selected by Chicago, Watson was drafted to Houston, and Mahomes would go on to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl and become NFL and Super Bowl MVP.
We should add in that Trubisky is currently battling for a starting spot as the Bears traded for quarterback Nick Foles in this offseason as well.
