Today on July 1 starts a new era for NCAA as athletes can get paid based on their name, likeness and image/playing ability.
And just after the start day came about, Dave Portnoy and Barstool Sports announced in an emergency press conference video that they started an NCAA marketing firm and have officially signed deals for their first NIL athletes in Jacksonville State University (JSU) volleyball player Adelaide ‘Addie’ Halverson and incoming defensive tackle for Stanford University, Zach Buckey.
Listed on the roster as a redshirt senior, Halverson is coming off her first full season with the Gamecocks. She helped lead JSU to its second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference championship finishing with 28 digs and five blocks.
Barstool’s other NIL athlete is Zack Buckey, incoming defensive tackle for Stanford. Buckey is known for a standout out on the gridiron and in track and field at Garces Memorial High School in California.
He has verbally committed to playing for the Cardinal football team last year, and signed his letter of intent to play for them in December.
Let’s see how many more athletes that Barstool can sign with their new NIL program they have. This is going to be interesting how this plays out.
Any other athletes who are interested on signing with Barstool, feel free to DM Dave or Barstool in the tweet below.
