As I have noted before, WWE Smackdown has been extremely entertaining since last August. One of the reasons why is because of Roman Reigns, His new heel persona with Paul Heyman by his side as Universal Champion is great stuff. Another reason why the blue brand has been so good these past few months – Sasha Banks! yep, let’s not discredit the excellent women’s division here. With Bayley leading the charge for most of 2019 and 2020, it felt like The Boss was just waiting for her opportunity. Now she has it. Now she is the Smackdown Womens Champion and shining.

The underlying reason why Smackdown has been so good as of late though? The under card has been getting time to be spotlighted, and new/fresh stars feel cool again. Let’s just look at a few guys.

Jey Uso has been a tag team guy his entire career. Now he is challenging for the Universal Championship and/or standing side by side with the absolute top star in the business.

Daniel Bryan may be on his last legs for a full-time run, but he is in the thick of things. Always a gem to watch.

Cesaro is on a roll and actually considered a favorite to be wrestling the Universal Champion very soon. That is awesome.

Shinsuke Nakamura has a great moment a few weeks back and is finally back to being a face again. Been nearly three years but he feels like a big time star again.

Big E is on his own and the reigning IC Champion. About freakin’ time he is down wasting time with The New Day.

Even guys like Chad Gable, Otis, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Apollo Crews (and others) are getting some television time. All these pieces make up a great puzzle called Smackdown. Well, that all came to a head thi past Friday night during a backstage segment with Cesaro, Kevin Owens, and Daniel Bryan. They were stragezing for the main event tag team match, except it was noted that Owens sure does betray others a lot. Not sure he is the most trustworthy guy. As Bryan and Cesaro were thinking of all his past transgressions, one guy was named…without being named…

BURN!

For those unaware, Daniel Bryan was bringing up the 2017 breakup of Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Yes, All Elite Wrestling star Chris Jericho. Remember The List? It was a brilliant segment. Big props to whoever wrote that specific line. It was so well done, with great delivery by the ‘aw shucks’ Daniel Bryan. Of course, not one to shy away from any kind of attention, Chris Jericho did respond on Twitter with a rather blank “Hey, wait a minute…”

All in good fun and another recent highlight for Smackdown. Keep going blue brand! We love you.
