Boom, Dan Campbell is the next man to lead the Detroit Lions. Reports surfaced last week that Campbell was the favorite to land the coaching job. Then Saturday afternoon Jay Glazer confirmed the reports of Campbell becoming head coach of the Lions.

Now that it is official, the former Lions tight end is coming back. After his career ended in 2010, Dan Campbell spent time as a coaching intern with the Dolphins. Working his way up to the tight ends coach. In 2015, the Dolphins fired coach Joe Philbin and Campbell took over as the interim coach for the final 12 games, going 5-7. Since 2016 Campbell has been the assistant head coach and tight ends coach with the Saints. Campbell has never been a coordinator on either side of the ball. What makes or breaks the hire for me is who the Lions and Campbell bring on as coordinators. On the defensive side, so far so good. It was reported that Saints defensive back coach, Aaron Glenn will be the defensive coordinator. Check that article out here:

It hasn’t been said what the Lions are going to do on the offensive side of the ball. I’m meh on the hire. The hiring of Aaron Glenn does make the higher better. I don’t love it or hate it, definitely not what I expected, which could be a good thing. Again, we all know what happened last time Lions fans loved a head coaching hire. You have to credit anyone willing to take the Lions job. It’s a death sentence based on prior history. In the super bowl era, no Lions coach has ever had a head coaching job again after coaching the Lions. Hey, it could be worse, look at Houston for example. No one wants to coach them.

Hopefully, Campbell will be the man to turn this around along with Brandon Holmes. Lions fans, give the man some time because Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn didn’t leave the franchise in the best of shape. Let’s do this Dan Campbell, bring us to glory for once.
