The Cubs new President of Baseball Op Jed Hoyer is looking at cost-effective ways to add to the team and they may have just picked up a sleeper relief arm.

Jonathan Holder, who has spent five seasons in the AL East with the New York Yankees, has a non-guaranteed contract with the Northsiders. Between 2017 and 2018, he posted a 3.45 ERA in over 100 innings, but other than that the 27 year old hasn’t been great by any means, with a 4.38 lifetime ERA.

The Yankees nontendered him as opposed to paying him $1M in arbitration, but the Cubs picked him up for $750K with the opportunity to earn another $150K in incentives.
