Six days ago, Theo Epstein resigned as Cubs president and the club promoted their General Manager Jed Hoyer to President of Baseball Operations.

Theo noted that he thought the team has a lot of decisions to make and that they should be made by somebody who’ll be in the Northside long-term. Jed Hoyer has now agreed to a new contract that runs through 2025. Hoyer, who was on his final deal of the contract he signed to be GM, became Chicago’s GM in 2011 and signed a five year extension after they won the World Series in 2016. Hoyer had previously been the General Manager of the San Diego Padres.

Hoyer doesn’t have the easiest of tasks going forward, as the Cubs have to make major decisions regarding their core of Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber and Willson Contreras. Will the Cubs enter a rebuild? Which superstar does Hoyer want to part with?
