Just when you thought that the Yankees were done with COVID, you can guess again! Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery have both tested positive for COVID over the past 24 hours and I’m ready for more of my hairs to turn grey. The somewhat good news is that the Yankees have the Orioles, Mariners and Royals over their next nine games. The bad news is, these are some must-win games.

I mean c’mon man! This team can’t catch a break. It’s not like they deserve anything considering the way they have been playing for most of the season, but really! Now! The rotation, as of now, looks like it will be Jameson Taillon, Nestor Cortes, Andrew Heaney, Luis Gil and TBD. Great…wonderful…delightful. It doesn’t help that Domingo German is currently out with shoulder inflammation as well. Considering that Deivi Garcia has been awful in Triple-A this year, I doubt he gets called up for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Luis Gil is set to make his MLB debut tonight in what seems to be a must-win game for the Yankees against the Orioles. He is a top pitching prospect for the Yankees with an upper 90’s fastball and devastating slider in the low 90’s, but his lack of command has prevented him from fully blossoming thus far. Now, I am very excited to see what he has, but poor Luis is being thrown into the fire in this one. You can’t lose a series to the Orioles at this time. Luis knows that, and all the other Yankees know that. Hopefully, the offense shows out tonight.

The somewhat positive news is that it is highly unlikely the Yankees have another bad COVID scenario for the rest of the season. If they somehow manage to sneak their way into the postseason, they likely won’t have to worry too much about another outbreak considering half the team has already tested positive this season. Who knows with this team though. Anyway, the Yankees need to win tonight. Luis… please be our savior. Thank you.
