A Connecticut inmate has died after being strangled with a face mask issued to protect him from the ‘rona. In another classic display of irony, the very face mask that was given to possibly save a prison inmate from COVID-19 was instead used to strangle him. FOX News 5 is reporting:

Daniel Ocasio, of Windsor, died Wednesday morning after being discovered sitting on a bunk in his cell at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center with a ligature fashioned from the mask tied around his neck, the Department of Correction said.

Not only will the coronavirus kill you but so will the face mask!

As someone who spent time in Con College (see my prison memoir, Laughing All the Way to the Bank (Robbery): How an Attorney Survived Prison for all the details), I’m not surprised that someone found a way to use a face mask to murderize someone (although that must have been one hella mask as most face masks I’ve used are flimsy AF). I know inmates are always coming up with clever ways to kill or injure someone without having to resort to the hackneyed shank. For example, one of my fellow inmates was fond of putting dominoes in a sock and blasting someone with it as he yelled “I’ma kill you.” Fun times.

A report from WTNH News 8 indicated:

Ocasio had entered the prison on August 5 and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond on a charge of third-degree burglary.  An autopsy has been ordered to determine if his death was a suicide, homicide or accidental.

The odds of an accidental death due to a face mask seem astronomical (unless it was to involve Jeffrey Epstein’s confidante Ghislaine Maxwell who is currently incarcerated for sex abuse charges for her pending case.

The coronapocalypse has featured some funny stories and some stories dripping with irony, but none so much as this one.

In other news, no confirmation to the rumor that New York State governor Andrew Cuomo is considering banning face masks since they can be weaponized.
