UFC 264 took place on Saturday and it delivered nonstop theatrics and pandemonium. The trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier was your main event and resulted in a loss for Conor McGregor by TKO via doctor stoppage. McGregor grotesquely broke his tibia at the end of the first round and could no longer continue with the fight.
In Poirier’s defense, McGregor was losing the fight in the grappling exchanges and was being outstruck, resulting in 10-8 scorecards before the fight was stopped.
McGregor was left immobile on the canvas and was carried out of the arena on a stretcher. After McGregor’s surgery, his management released a statement on his behalf.
A few hours later, McGregor himself posted a video giving an update on his health and absolutely blasting Poiriera after his “win.”
Even after a loss and surgery, McGregor, a true showman, continued to sell us another fight. UFC president, Dana White, already confirmed at the post-fight press conference that a forth fight will take place once McGregor heals. “It’s brutal. It’s not the way you want to see fights end. Dustin Poirier will fight for the title, and when Conor is healed and ready to go, you do the rematch,” White said.
The rivalry continues.
