The Philadelphia Eagles are set with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at the two wide receiver spots. They are arguably the best duo in the NFL.
There is a interesting battle brewing for the No. 3 spot going on with Parris Campbell, John Ross and Britain Covey.
Going into this year’s training camp, Campbell was thought to be penciled in to that position, but Covey is making a strong case to earn that spot.
Covey has been the Eagles punt returner the last two years. He has played very little at receiver with 77 career snaps on offense, 35 of which were in Week 18 last year.
The 5-8, 173-pound Covey has worked hard to become the No. 3/slot WR for the Eagles in new Offense Coordinator Kellen Moore’s offense.
Covey has said that he studied film on former Dallas Cowboys slot WR Cole Beasley, who at 5-8, 174 pounds, has a similar build as his.
Beasley carved out a successful 12-year NFL career as a slot receiver. He played in Moore’s offense for a few years in Dallas.
It has been reported that Covey earned the trust of QB Jalen Hurts. Head Coach Nick Sirianni pointed out that Covey has had a nice camp.
Covey probably has a bit of an uphill battle to earn the No. 3 receiver spot, but it does appear that he’s turning heads.
