Brian Pillman is one of my all time favorite performers in the wrestling industry. His charisma and personality went absolutely unmatched as far as I’m concerned. Whether it was WCW, ECW or WWE, Pillman gave it his all with the character he was given. His younger days in WCW were fun to watch alongside Steve Austin as one half of the Hollywood Blondes. But to me, he really began to shine as the “Loose Cannon” character that we saw both in ECW and WWE. Unfortunately, we never got to see Pillman’s full potential as he passed away at a very young age. The entire wrestling landscape would be completely different if he was still with us today. I can only imagine the great matches he could have had in WWE with the likes of Shawn Michael and Steve Austin. Could you imagine him and The Rock dueling with one another in a promo? Pillman was absolute gold, and wrestling fans across the world were robbed of his genius when he passed away prematurely.

I remember a few years ago when I was reading a dirt sheet and it was discussing Brian Pillman’s son, Brian Pillman Jr. There is something that is so intriguing for long time wrestling fans and seeing the wrestlers you once love and seeing their children get involved in the business. To me, it was even cooler that it was the son of a man who never achieved as much as he should have. It was very similar to the story of DH Smith and his father, Davey Boy Smith, the British Bulldog. There was a built in story right out of the gate. This kid, Brian Pillman Jr was the spitting image of his father. His looks, his mannerisms. The mullet. Man, you have to love the mullet. Honestly, I think he rocks it even better than his Dad did. But I have followed his career ever since he debuted, and I simply see Pillman Jr’s career as redemption for what his father missed out on.

I think AEW was the perfect place for Pillman Jr to land once he got a few years under his belt. When he first came into the limelight, I was hopeful that he would join the WWE. But as time went on, I’m glad he chose to move forward with AEW. Pillman Jr has the opportunity to work with the best the business has to offer in terms of both in-ring talent and knowledge of the business. From everything I gather about AEW, it is not cut-throat like other organizations might be. Everyone is there to help one another out, and that is exactly what Pilllman Jr needs as his star power continues to rise.

After watching Pillman Jr in the ring and on the microphone, I genuinely believe he is destined to sit atop the wrestling industry in a short matter of time. He has it all. The look. The charisma. The heart. And most importantly, he has his father’s spirit inside him. That combination alone is enough to take him to the top of not just AEW but the wrestling business as a whole. Brian Pillman Jr is destined for great things and will very much be a force to be reckoned with. In my opinion, last weeks AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage were Pillman Jr’s coming out party.

I cannot wait to see what Brian Pillman Jr has in store for us in the coming years. I call tell you one thing, his father is definitely smiling down on him right now. The Pillman name will forever be tied to the word “greatness” in the wrestling world.
