In a stunning report, WWE has released former Intercontinental and SmackDown Tag Champion Luke Harper and NXT Tag Champion Sin Cara, months after both asked for their release via social media, a tactic other superstars such as Mike Kanellis have attempted to do.

WWEs statement on the website is “WWE has come to terms on the release of Jonathan Huber (Luke Harper) and Sin Cara. WWE wishes them the best luck in their future endeavors.”

Harper has recently filed a copyright claim for the name “Brodie Lee”, his name on the independent wrestling scene until he signed with WWE in 2012. He debuted as part of the Wyatt Family, alongside Erick Rowan and current Universal Champion Bray Wyatt. He is a multi-time tag champion with the aforementioned Rowan and Randy Orton. He is known for his size, and would be a great fit for NJPW, NWA and MLW, as outside wrestling is flourishing more than ever. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Dolph Ziggler in 2014.

A guy like Harper on the outs I don’t think is a great AEW fit. AEW has 3 hours of weekly television and an excess of young talent. For a 40 year old Harper, how much would he really do there? Let’s also consider the fact that the role he’d play, they have guys like Jon Moxley and Jimmy Havoc. He can be a top guy for decent money in MLW and NWA and kill it. I’d also like to see him go to Japan and kill it with guys like El Phantasmo or Minoru Suzuki.

Wrestling has more places to go since the territories died out, and it won’t be long until somewhere else starts integrating itself larger in pop culture, either.

I don’t think it’s AEW, WWE or no way in any way. Luke Harper could benefit a lot of places.

Sin Cara, previously “Hunico”, is the second incarnation of Sin Cara to be released. Since donning the mask, Hunico has won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Kalisto as “the Lucha Dragons.” Since, he’s barely been on TV. The best fit for him is AAA, in this journalists opinion.

It remains to be seen if Harper and Sin Cara are the only casualties as WWE has an abundance of talent they aren’t doing anything with. It’s worth noting that Oney Lorcan, Mike Kanellis, The Revival, among other talents have recently asked for their release. It’s been noted by quite a few that talent wouldn’t be granted their release, following the emergence of AEW.
