In today’s realm of baseball news, the Royals officially have no star player. 6x All-Star catcher, and one of the final links to their 2015 World Series team, Salvador Perez, has been diagnosed with UCL damage according to a report in the A.M. by ESPNs Jeff Passan.

According to an update within the last 45 minutes from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, Perez is set to have Tommy John Surgery next week. He will miss the entire 2019 season and potentially part of the 2020 season. He is owed $35M over the next 3 seasons.

Salvador Perez is the final member of KCs championship core (Hosmer, Moustakas, Escobar, Cain, Ventura) still with the club. He is one of the elite catchers of the American League with 5 Gold Gloves. He is an exceptional defender and was the 2015 World Series MVP.

Kansas City lost 100 games last season, and now are without their best player. It’ll be a long year of “Missouri” for the fanbase as the team hopes to make a leap in their rebuild.
