Breaking News around the Soccer world, today. The 2-time defending Premier League Champions, Manchester City has been banned by UEFA from the Champions League for the next 2-seasons, ss well as an other European competition that the club qualifies for in the next 2-seasons. The club was also fined $33 Million (US Dollars) after the club was caught overstating sponsorship revenue in an attempt to comply with UEFA’s “Financial Fair Play” regulations.

The punishment is surely going to hurt the club’s chances to make big splashes in the next couple of transfer windows in trying to acquire new talent for the squad. Also, manager, Pep Guardiola’s contract expires, after next season & that could get interesting, as well. “The adjudicatory chamber has considered all evidence & has found that the Manchester City Football (Soccer) Club has committed serious breaches of the UEFA club licensing & financial fair play regulations by overstating it’s sponsorship revenue in its accounts & in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012-2016.” UEFA said in a statement moments ago.

This sanctioning has no barring on the club’s bid to win the Champions League, this season as the team prepares for their Round of 16 match-up with Real Madrid, later this month. The club has released a statement claiming that the process has been “flawed” & they plan to appeal the sanctioning.

The club has already been sanctioned by UEFA for violating the FPP rule in 2014. At the time, UEFA just hit the team with a fine, rather then suspension from European play, as is the case, this time.

This news will sure shake-up the competition in England’s Premier League, this season, as now another club will have a chance to qualify for the next 2 tournaments as Manchester City’s placement in the league’s standings won’t count towards a potential Champions League’s qualification bid.
