Adam Schefter is reporting that the Cowboys are releasing LB Jaylon Smith.

Smith was considered one of the best young linebackers a couple of seasons ago but now sees himself out of a job. This was a shocker to many but he should get picked up soon from any team looking for LB help.

Smith was a highly touted LB prospect out of college but a career-threatening knee injury made him fall where the Cowboys took a chance on him and drafted him 34th overall in the 2016 draft. With the Cowboys, he tallied 9 sacks combined with 317 tackles over his 5-year career with the team.

The team signed him to a 5 year, 64 million dollar extension in 2019 and will still be paid 7.2 million for the remainder of the year by the Cowboys. He only played 28 snaps in the Cowboys game Sunday. He was being fazed out of the defensive scheme so that made this decision easier for the team even if it came out of left field for fans.

I believe he has some good football left and will be shocked if he doesn’t attach to a team later this week or at the latest early next week. A good talent that deserves another shot. Expect teams like the Packers, Chargers, Chiefs, Browns, Ravens, Eagles, Lions, WFT and Raiders to be connected to him in some way over the coming days.

Where do you see Jaylon Smith landing after his release? Let us know!
