According to reports Memphis Grizzlies have fired head coach J.B Bickerstaff and reassigned GM Chris Wallace to a scouting role. Just hours ago Wallace addressed the media to assure that Bickerstaffs job was safe.
“J.B. and his staff did a great job keeping everybody together and improving both individually and team-wise down the stretch,” Wallace said during the team’s exit interviews with local media.
Bickerstaff led the Grizzlies to a 33-49 record in his first season as a full-time head coach.
The Grizzlies dismissed coach J.B. Bickerstaff and reassigned GM Chris Wallace to a scouting capacity in the front office, league sources tell ESPN. VP John Hollinger will also move into a senior advisory role.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 11, 2019
So the Grizzlies demote their top basketball exec and fire their coach … just hours after having that exec address the media and assure that the coach is safe. What's the Grizzlies equivalent of #Kangz? https://t.co/AcQBB7sTWT— Howard Beck (@HowardBeck) April 11, 2019
Chris Wallace literally told the media this morning that J.B. Bickerstaff was safe. Now the Grizzlies are completely restructuring everything in their front office. Dysfunction has a distinct scent, I think.— Jeremy Woo (@JeremyWoo) April 11, 2019
What the hell is going on?
