A preliminary autopsy report may shed some light into the last few moments of George Floyd’s life.
The famous cell phone video that shows former Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the back of George Floyd’s neck for more than 8 minutes; autopsy reports now show evidence that Mr. Floyd was unconscious and unresponsive for nearly three of those minutes. It is the other information found in the autopsy report that is shocking and may prove a stumbling block for the Prosecution when it comes time for the case to come to trial.
A preliminary autopsy report is showing “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.” The report goes on to state that cause of death is believed to be due to “the combined effects of Mr. Floyd being arrested by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system.”
Legal experts have speculated at to if this information may benefit the now former Minnesota lawman who was charged with third degree murder and faces a possible sentence of up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
The family of George Floyd have requested Dr. Michael Baden to perform a second, independent autopsy.
