The reports have been swirling all week about the Kansas City Royals and their future, amidst owner David Glass’ poor health. We now have our answer, as USAToday’s Bob Nightengale and ESPNs Jeff Passan report that he has agreed to sell the team to Kansas City businessman John Sherman. The total of the deal is a whopping $1 billion.

Glass originally bought the team in April of 2000 from the Kauffman estate for a total of $96 million proceeding a bidding war with Miles Prentice.

Under the leadership of Glass, the Royals, despite being notoriously cheap, won their second World Series championship in 2015. The interesting tidbit, however, is that John Sherman is a minority owner in division-rival Cleveland Indians. He bought stake in the Indians in 2016. He would sell his portion of the team once the 29 owners of other organizations ratify this Royals deal through.
