Jack Mayfield, Astros middle infielder, has been claimed off of waivers by the Braves. The 30-year-old is the Braves 38th player on the 40-man roster. Mayfield has only seen limited time in the Majors due to Jose Altuve, former MVP, being on the Astros. In the 112 plate appearances, he’s only gotten on base at a .198 clip. He’s known primarily for his glovework.

It looks as though it’ll be the same in Atlanta, however. Ozzie Albies has emerged as the best 2nd baseman in baseball the last three or so seasons. In AAA though Mayfield has hit .268/.325/.472 in 1224 campaigns. The Braves hope that they can get this Mayfield in a bench role.
