Gearbox Software has something big planned for Borderlands fans next week, with a special Celebration of Togetherness event planned. And it could hint at a big feature that could bring players closer than anyone could’ve originally predicted.
The company made note of the announcement on Twitter yesterday, announcing that it will take place on Tuesday, July 16, at 7:00 AM PDT. During that time, it’ll provide further details on what the Celebration is all about, but it hints that it could very well be announcing cross-play support.
What does that mean? Well, it basically indicates that Xbox One players, PlayStation 4 players and PC players could be joining up together to raid Vaults, take down enemies and basically do some hunting, no matter which version of the game they may own. Check out the announcement for yourself below.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford hinted, “Please consider taking a moment to visit with us on Tuesday, July 16th. We’d be honored for you to take this moment to celebrate our togetherness and we anticipate that what we have prepared for you can create a shared moment of happiness, joy and wonder.” That further notes that we could be seeing cross-play support, an unprecedented feature for a game of this type. That’s not official confirmation – at least, not yet, but it seems rather likely at this point.
The general campaign could take anywhere up to 35 hours to complete, so it doesn’t hurt to have a few friends in tow to complete it. That said, it’s likely that more co-op features will be introduced very soon as well, considering that the game’s September 13 release isn’t too far off for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Expect more details shortly.
We’ll see you on the front lines!
