The Lions once again started the game off hot, scoring on their first two drives of the game to go up 14-0 in the first five minutes. Then things got ugly, the Lions offense would stall and the Saints put up 35 unanswered points. The Lions would try to make a comeback, cutting the Saints lead to six but couldn’t get a stop when it mattered. Ultimately losing the game 29-35 and drops to 1-3 on the season.

The offense and defense were both equal to blame today. The offense didn’t score after the hot start until late in the third quarter. Despite throwing three touchdowns, Matthew Stafford struggled today. Missing open receivers and making questionable decisions in crucial moments.

Much like the offense, the defense started hot intercepting Drew Brees on the Saint’s first drive. Then the Saints scored on five straight possessions and ran all over the Lions. The Lions could not stop the run to save their life. The Saints running backs had their way with the Lions defense. Latavius Murray running for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Alvin Kamara ran for 83 yards and one touchdown. Drew Brees looked like his old self, throwing for two touchdowns and 246 yards. The Lions couldn’t get off the field on third down, the Saints converted 10/14 on third downs.

The Saints were missing six of their starters and completely dominated the Lions. The Lions have blown double-digit leads in all three of their losses this season and continues ending up on the wrong side of history.

The Lions enter the bye week in all of a too familiar spot, in the last place of the division. Matt Patricia is now 10-25-1 since taking over a nine-win team in 2018. Blowing double-digit leads is nothing new for Matt Patricia, blowing double-digit leads in 12 of his 25 losses as Lions coach. Patricia’s seat is on fire heading into the bye week and rightfully so.
